Athletic Department Policy

Chaminade's athletic department has a very strict and tightly monitored rule pertaining to a club sport overlapping seasons with a high school sponsored sport.

Chaminade Hockey Club has a very good working relationship with the CCP Athletic Department. Please help maintain this by respecting and following the policy mandated by the school and athletic department and fully supported by CCP Hockey Club.

In response to recent inquiries here is the policy:

The sport whose season starts first takes precedence over a succeeding season's sport and NO PLAYER MAY PARTICIPATE IN ANY PRACTICE OR GAME OF THE SUCCEEDING SEASON'S SPORT UNTIL THE CONCLUSION OF THE FIRST SEASON'S SPORT. In short, if an athlete plays football, soccer, runs cross country, etc. (school sponsored) in the fall, he cannot practice or play games with CCP hockey (club sport)until the school sponsored sport concludes. This does include tryouts and pre-season games played in September and October. In the spring the reverse takes effect - if hockey (club) is not over and a student wants to play baseball, golf, etc.(school sponsored), he cannot join those teams in ANY capacity (this included tryouts) until hockey is over. Lacrosse and rugby are club sports but the policy still applies.

Regarding Tryouts - If a player does play another fall sport and also want to play hockey, he will miss regular tryouts and preseason tournaments (also used as part of the tryout process). Once all events associated with his other sport are over, the player should notify a coach and inform him the season is over. The coaching staff will have the player join one of the teams and begin practicing. He will be observed at practice and placed where the coaches decide. There are also regulations stipulating how long an athlete must practice with a team before he can play in a game.

Playoff and league championship games for all teams can go into the first weeks of March. If a Chaminade team should advance, please remember the Chaminade Athletic Policy regarding overlapping club and school sponsored sports. A hockey player on a team that plays into March (after spring sport tryouts and practices have begun) CANNOT try out or practice with a spring sport team until ALL hockey is over. The player must communicate with the coach of the respective sport he intends to try out for.
